12-year-old boy steals grandpa’s car, takes joyride around West Valley

A 12-year-old boy is back with his parents after he allegedly stole his grandpa’s car and drove it around West Valley City Wednesday night.
According to police, the boy was joyriding around 11:40 p.m. when an off-duty Ogden police officer spotted him driving recklessly.
The officer followed the boy to a dead end street, at which point the teen rammed the officer’s vehicle. The off-duty officer had been driving his personal vehicle, so there were no indications or lights to show he was police, West Valley City police stated.
No one was hurt during the crash. Only two cars were damaged.
The boy was taken into police custody near 700 W. 4400 South. He was later released back to his parents.
It’s possible the boy may face charges, according to West Valley police.
