389 new COVID-19 cases, 14,628 vaccinations reported Sunday in Utah
SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health on Sunday is reporting 389 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, 13 deaths and 14,628 more vaccinations in the state. Nine of those 13 deaths occurred before March 1, officials said.
Over the past week, Utah is averaging 422 new cases per day and a positive test rate of 3.5%. One month ago the state was averaging 647 cases per day and its positive rate was 5.2%.
Sunday’s numbers come as 8,316 more test results were reported, the health department said. Currently, there are 142 Utahns hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 56 in intensive care.
Overall, Utah has now seen 384,562 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 2,114 coronavirus-related deaths, 15,462 hospitalizations and 4,199,971 tests conducted. It has administered 1,304,319 doses of the coronavirus vaccine and fully vaccinated 477,700 people.
The deaths reported Sunday include:
- A Box Elder County man over age 85 who was not hospitalized when he died
- A Box Elder County man between ages 65 and 84 who was hospitalized when he died
- A Box Elder County woman over age 85 who was the resident of a long-term care facility
- A Cache County man between ages 65 and 84 who was the resident of a long-term care facility
- A Davis County woman between ages 65 and 84 who was the resident of a long-term care facility
- A Salt Lake County man between ages 65 and 84 who was the resident of a long-term care facility
- A Sevier County woman between ages 65 and 84 who was hospitalized
- A Tooele County woman over age 85 who was the resident of a long-term care facility
- A Utah County woman over age 85 who was not hospitalized
- A Utah County man between ages 45 and 64 who was hospitalized
- A Utah County man over age 85 who was the resident of a long-term care facility
- A Weber County woman over age 85 who was not hospitalized
- A Weber County man between ages 45 and 64 who was hospitalized
State leaders including Gov. Spencer Cox are expected to provide their regular weekly update on the state’s coronavirus response later this week; the news conference usually occurs on Thursdays.
All Utahns age 16 or older are now eligible to schedule a coronavirus vaccine. More information is available at coronavirus.utah.gov/vaccine-distribution.
