Driver shoots at West Valley City officer unprovoked, police chase ensues; suspect caught
Police have arrested the suspect in Saturday’s unprovoked shooting at a West Valley City police officer.
According to police, the suspect was stopped near 3800 West 4700 South.
Police say the suspect is in custody and there is no danger to the community.
(KUTV) – A West Valley City Police officer narrowly escaped being hit by gunfire when a driver shot at him Saturday afternoon.
The incident started near 4000 West Rockwood Ave just before 5 p.m. when the officer was performing an inspection on a vehicle.
An unknown suspect approached the officer and fired a gun multiple times. The officer was not hit and other officers were able to find the suspect’s car as he fled the area, according to West Valley Police Lt. Justin Wyckoff.
Police chased the suspect into Salt Lake City but he was able to evade authorities. Just after 5:30 p.m., police found the car ditched in South Salt Lake.
There is an active search in the area of 300 East Beryl Avenue in South Salt Lake.
