Teen girl among 12 new Utah COVID-19 deaths
Salt Lake City, Utah — A teenager from Salt Lake County died from COVID-19 Wednesday, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The girl was between the age of 15 and 17, was unvaccinated, and had no previous health conditions. The gap is due to Salt Lake County reporting the teen’s age to be between 12-17, while the state reported her age to be between 15 and 24.
Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall shared her condolences over the teen’s death.
“Today’s news that a teenager from our county died is tragic, and my heart is with her family, friends, and community. At her age, the horizon of life was wide open offering endless possibilities. Please protect yourselves and your loved ones,” wrote Mendenhall.
“My heart is broken to learn that another child has died from COVID in Salt Lake County,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. “Please protect your family by vaccinating those who are eligible.”
Overall, 1,687 new COVID-19 cases were reported Wednesday, 413 of which are school-aged children.
• 162 cases in children ages 5-10
• 119 cases in children ages 11-13
• 132 cases in children ages 14-18

The health department reports, 8,876 more vaccine doses have been administered since yesterday.
The rolling 7-day average for positive tests is 1,317 per day. The rolling 7-day average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 14.1%. The rolling 7-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” is 10.4%.
The health department reports, there are 498 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Utah.
