Spirit Airlines to begin SLC flights very soon
Salt Lake City, Utah — On May 26Spirit Airlines will begin flights to and from the Salt Lake City International Airport.
The announcement was made by representatives from the airline and airport made on Tuesday morning.
Initially, Spirit will offer twice-daily flights from SLC to Las Vegas, and daily flights to Orlando and Los Angeles.
This is the first addition to the airport since 2014 when Alaska Airlines began flights to SLC. It’s also the first addition to the new, $4.5 billion SLC airport, which was finished last year.
According to John Kirby, Spirit’s vice president of network planning, the airline will hire 40 people to run their Utah operations, and they’ll hold a job fair for pilots and flight attendants on Feb. 8.
“We listen to our guests, and they told us they wanted more exciting western destinations to experience the great outdoors. This spring is a great time to launch service to Salt Lake City, the crossroads of the West,” Kirby said. “We’re also excited to introduce our high-value travel proposition for our new Utah guests looking for convenient nonstop flights to some of the nation’s most popular leisure destinations.”
SLC is the airline’s 53rd market in the continental U.S. and 86th global market. Kirby said Spirit plans to increase its number of aircraft from 170 to over 300 by 2026.
