Salt Lake City, Utah – The Salt Lake City Police Department notified locals on Sunday night that all prior orders for evacuation related to the Sandhurst Fire had been revoked.

Authorities advised people to remain ready to flee in case of emergency and cautioned that re-entry was subject to conditions. For more updates, residents were also encouraged to follow Utah Fire Info on social media.

According to a news release from SLCPD, members of the Sandhurst Fire incident management team were in the process of formulating the conditions necessary to restore the evacuation order on Sunday night.

“After strong efforts by firefighting resources on the Sandhurst Fire, containment has been reached on the southern perimeter,” police said in the release.

The incident commander was consulted by SLCPD regarding the fire, and the fire managers expressed their “confidence” that the fire would not spread to the neighboring community.

The following was stated by officials when they clarified which evacuation orders were lifted:

This includes the mandatory evacuation order for residents north of Dorchester Drive, including Twickenham Drive and the voluntary evacuation of the neighborhood west of East Capitol Boulevard and east of Victory Road.”

Even if the evacuation orders have been revoked, it is nevertheless advised that visitors stay away from the area to prevent impeding firefighting resources.

When the evacuation orders were lifted, there were still trail closures in place near the fire, including those for Ensign Peak, Tunnel Springs, and the portion of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail nearest to the fire.

As of Sunday night, the human-caused Sandhurst Fire was 10% contained and estimated to be 204 acres in size, according to the Utah Wildfire Dashboard.
