Brush fire sparks in West Valley City amid gusty winds, dry weather conditions
A brush fire sparked in West Valley City near the Decker Lane TRAX Station on Monday.
It’s unknown what started the blaze.
A total of 17 firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames, which burned approximately 1.5 acres.
No structures were burned, but some vehicles threatened.
Crews are working to mop up hot spots, according to the West Valley City Fire Department.
According to 2News Meteorologist Lindsay Storrs, “strong winds, along with hot temperatures and dry fuels will create high fire danger across the state” on Monday.
Utah fire officials are urging extreme caution as strong winds and dry weather have created an increase in fire danger.
“Some of the fuel conditions right now, in the middle of May, are looking like you might expect to see in June. So it is pretty serious,” Jason Curry, with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, told 2News on Sunday.
