West Valley City, Utah – On Tuesday afternoon a fire took over a home in West Valley City, one dog was killed

Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a house fire located in the area of 6400 W. and 3900 S. around 4:30 p.m. according to Batallion Chief Bridger Williams with the West Valley City Fire Department.

According to firefighters, when they arrived on the scene, smoke and flames reaching up to 50 feet above the home could be seen towering into the air. During battling the flames outside the home, crews were able to enter the home and rescue multiple puppies from inside. Unfortunately, one adult dog was killed in the fire.

No one else was injured in the fire.

Officials say the home is considered to be a total loss, three sheds in the backyard of the home and two sheds in a neighbor’s backyard were also damaged.

According to Williams, it is not very vise to return inside if you’re home does happen to catch fire.

“If you’ve got active flame and smoke inside of a home, don’t go back in there and try to affect that rescue,” Williams says.

“Believe it or not, most times when people go back into effect rescue, even if the flames aren’t that big, it’s the smoke that will overcome them most of the time,” he adds.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
