Herriman police officers responding to protective order violation hear gunfire; encounter, shoot, and kill armed suspect
HERRIMAN, Utah — Herriman Police Department officers responding to a 911 call for a violation of a protective order heard gunfire and encountered, shot, and killed an armed man, police confirmed overnight.
At approximately 10 p.m., police received a 911 call for a reported violation of a protective order in the 5300 block of Solafax Lane, according to Herriman Police Department Commander Zach Adams.
“While enroute, officers were advised the male suspect was armed,” stated Adams. “As they arrived in the area, responding officers heard several gunshots.”
“An adult male was encountered and challenged by our officers,” he said. “At some point, he presented a threat and was engaged by two officers with the Herriman City Police Department.”
No officers were injured in the shooting.
Because this is a critical incident, Adams says the Salt Lake County Protocol Team is handling the investigation.
Investigators are expected to remain on scene into the early morning hours.
A portion of Stone Hayes Drive, between Fallowfield Lane and Ashurst Lane, was closed during the investigation.
This is a developing story.
