‘Hope dealer’ remains at the forefront of efforts to provide meals for the homeless in Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City, Utah – A non-profit organization focused on providing meals to individuals facing homelessness is expanding its efforts.
Be a Little Too Kind has been honored as the Smith’s Zero Hunger, Zero Waste Hero for November.
“We provide for our friends – that’s what we refer to them as – our friends,” stated Jessica Lowe, founder of Be a Little Too Kind. “Every Thursday, we provide them with a warm, homemade meal.” Additionally, we provide them with a sack lunch.
Lowe has witnessed significant growth in the non-profit since its inception in 2021.
In 2023, Be a Little Too Kind provided approximately 6000 hot meals. As of now in 2024, the organization has already exceeded that total, with several weeks still remaining in the year.
A dedicated group of volunteers and generous donors brings this to life.
“What I enjoy most about this is witnessing how much this act of kindness brightens their week,” shared Isaak Lowe, Jessica’s son and fellow volunteer.
Jessica dedicates numerous hours each week to preparing the majority of the meals in her home kitchen. Her dedication stems from a deep understanding of the impact it has.
“We have witnessed several individuals successfully transition from the streets into addiction recovery, transforming their lives for the better,” she stated. “They contact us to share these new milestones in their life.”
She prioritizes the cause so much that she doesn’t even take a break for the holidays.
“I really enjoy celebrating Thanksgiving with my friends.” “This is the ultimate way to celebrate Thanksgiving,” she remarked. “It seems to enhance their sense of importance, realizing that we choose to be with them instead of our own families, as we view them as our family.”
Jessica envisions the organization expanding with additional locations and the incorporation of food trucks.
Identifying as a “hope dealer,” she dedicates herself to providing hope to those who need it most.
“They frequently inquire about my motivations, and my response is consistent, ‘because this is what Jesus would do,’” she stated.
