Illinois Police Arrest Suspect in Kenosha Shooting that Left 2 Dead
POLICE ARRESTED AN Illinois teen on Wednesday in connection with a shooting that left two people dead and one injured in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Tuesday night.
Court documents from Lake County, Illinois, show that 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse was arrested in Antioch, Illinois, after being charged with first-degree intentional homicide. Antioch is approximately 20 miles from Kenosha, where unrest and protests have been ongoing for several days following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.
One victim was shot in the head and the other in the chest.
Video of the shooting shows a white man opening fire in the middle of the street with a semi-automatic rifle, the Associated Press reported, and the shooter can later be heard saying, “I just killed somebody.”
The shooting occurred during the third night of unrest in Kenosha, which saw protesters assembling outside a metal barrier protecting the courthouse and confronting law enforcement officers, who fired tear gas into the crowd.
Blake, an African American man, was shot by police Sunday and after undergoing surgery is paralyzed from the waist down, his family said.
