Provo man arrested for stabbing 23-month-old child
KUTV — A Provo man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed a 23-month-old baby, who was sleeping in its mother’s bed.
Miguel Francisco Rodriguez-Vega was booked into the Utah County Jail for charges of child abuse, a commission of domestic violence, intoxication, and criminal mischief, a probable cause affidavit states.
Police were notified at 3:33 a.m. when a woman rushed her 23-month-old child with stab wounds to a local hospital.
After drinking at a Provo residence, Rodriquez-Vega reportedly went into a bedroom and saw pillows stacked up next to the child’s mother.
Provo police say Rodriguez-Vega asked “Who’s that in the bed?” and began stabbing the bed.
The 23-month-old baby was sleeping next to the woman and was stabbed by Rodriguez-Vegas, according to authorities.
The baby was injured but is expected to survive.
During an interview with police, Rodriquez-Vegas was remorseful when officers told him what had happened, police told 2News.
