SUMMIT PARK, Utah — A Salt Lake County man died Wednesday afternoon after he tried to use his body to stop a van sliding down an icy road.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, a Summit County snowplow operator witnessed the incident and contacted the Sheriff’s Office at 3:36 p.m.
“The snowplow operator watched an adult male get out of a cargo van on Saint Moritz Strasse in Summit Park. The van began to slide down the icy roadway – the male went behind the van and attempted to stop it. Unfortunately, he was run over and pinned between the van, a snowbank, and a tree,” a news release from the Sheriff’s Office says.
Medical personnel responded to the scene and tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the man. The Sheriff’s Office thanked the Park City Fire District and Summit County Public Works for their assistance in trying to save the man’s life.
“The incident was nothing short of a weather-related tragic accident,” the news release says.
The victim was a man in his 40s. His name has not been released pending notification of his family and friends.
