Provo, Utah – Over the next 15 years, a substantial $78 million investment, including $19.5 million upfront, will be made on the Provo Airport.

The money will be used to support the airport’s growth and expansion in order to accommodate Utah County’s rapidly increasing population as well as the 2034 Winter Olympics.

The Tourism, Recreation, Cultural, and Convention (TRCC) and Transient Room Tax (TRT) earnings will be used to pay for the initial expenses. After that, the County will give the airport $3.9 million a year for the following 15 years.

The Provo Airport will modernize its infrastructure and add new terminals and services over that time to handle more travelers.

Skyler Beltran, vice chair of the Utah County Commission, described the investment as a “win-win.”

“It will not only increase tourism and visitor-generated income that can benefit our citizens and lower their tax burden for years to come, but it will also give Utah County residents more travel options and convenience,” Beltran added. For many years to come, the investment will be a significant source of jobs and tax income in Utah County. It will showcase our amazing community and everything it has to offer while improving daily living.

According to Provo officials, the Salt Lake International Airport is the busiest airport, with Provo Airport coming in second. Over the past few years, officials have been trying to expand the airport’s offerings by adding big airlines and additional terminals.

When studies revealed that the airport was only handling a small portion of its projected passenger volume, Provo officials realized in 2023 that the airport needed to be expanded.

“This investment represents a significant turning point for Utah County’s aviation industry,” stated Utah County Commissioner Amelia Powers. “By growing Provo Airport, we are creating economic growth that will benefit future generations in addition to improving accessibility for our citizens and tourists.”
