13-year-old boy missing at Fish Lake
Fish Lake, Utah — At Fish Lake in Sevier County, a search for a 13-year-old boy is underway.
Friday morning the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a capsized boat.
A father and son from Cedar City had been fishing with a friend, according to Sevier County Sheriff Nathan Curtis.
According to Curtis, at 3:30 a.m., they dropped the friend off and the father and son headed back out to fish some more. Just before 8:00 a.m., some fishermen could hear someone yelling for help. They located the father and were able to get him to shore.
He was rushed to Sevier Valley hospital to be treated for exposure and hypothermia.
Around 9 p.m. Sheriff Curtis said, “We are actively grid searching the lake right now.” Rescue crews from Sevier County and a dive team from the Utah Highway Patrol Department of Public Safety are looking for the boy. The state fire marshal’s office is also on-site searching.
According to Curtis, there have been drownings at Fish Lake before, but not this time of year.
“Our expectation is we’ll bring this young man home to his family,” Curtis said.
