Utah Jazz reveal schedule for first half of 2020-21 NBA season
SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz will kick off its COVID-delayed 2020-21 season on Dec. 23 in Portland, Ore. against the Trailblazers.
The NBA announced the Jazz team schedule for the first half of the NBA season, which begins on Dec. 22. The Jazz announced the team’s schedule through March 3. The NBA will release the schedule for the second half of the NBA season, which covers March 11 to May 16, sometime closer to the season’s midway point.
The day after Christmas, on Dec. 26, the Jazz will have their home opener against former Jazz guard Ricky Rubio who is back with his first team, the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Jazz also released some of the team’s highlights for the first half of the 72-game shortened NBA season (during regular NBA seasons, teams play 82 games each).
The Utah Jazz stated:
- Longest home stand: Six games from Jan. 19-29
- Longest road trip: Seven games from Jan. 3-13
- Nationally televised games: Nine (NBATV 5, TNT 2, ESPN 2)
- Back-to-back games: Six
- Two-for-ones: With the NBA looking to minimize travel where it can to keep teams safe and healthy, there will be multiple times this season when the Jazz will face the same opponent in consecutive games: New Orleans (Jan. 19 and 20), Dallas (Jan. 27 and 29), at L.A. Clippers (Feb. 17 and 19).
- Playoff rematch: The Denver Nuggets won’t visit Salt Lake in the first half of the campaign, but the Jazz will twice play in the Mile High City (Jan. 17 and Jan. 31)
- Defending NBA champs: LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers come to Vivint Arena on Feb. 24, the only time the Jazz will face the defending champs in the first half of the season.
