Midvalley Highway opens to drivers in Tooele County
Tooele, Utah — Saturday morning Utah Department of Transportation officials opened the new Midvalley Highway in Tooele County.
The new road was built in order to make it easier for residents to get into Interstate 80.
“This is going to really provide another option for Tooele County residents to get to I-80 and really help alleviate some congestion we’re seeing on SR 36 at the Lake Point Interchange,” said Lisa Wilson with UDOT.
According to Tom Tripp, council chair with Tooele County, this new highway is a “tremendous improvement.”
“We’ve had trouble getting in and out of the Valley,” Tripp added. “This gives us a big relief.”
The new road is about four and a half miles and runs between State Route 138 near Sheep Lane and Interstate 80. It’s also about five miles west of the State Route 36 Interchange.
According to other officials, the new road provides more opportunities for economic development around the highway, providing direct access to more complexes, airports, and other recreational activities.
Construction has been underway for two years, but the project really started 20 years ago, officials said.
