First glimpses of Salt Lake City’s “Power District,” which may feature an MLB stadium provided via renderings
Salt Lake City, Utah – On Thursday, the Larry H. Miller Company and the Miller family revealed their designs for the “Power District,” which is a proposed area on Salt Lake City’s west side that may eventually house a brand-new Major League Baseball stadium.
The Power District’s development will start this year, according to officials, with the building of Rocky Mountain Power’s new headquarters scheduled to begin in late 2024.
The renderings that have been made public feature a massive stadium, apartments, shops, green areas, and companies in the heart of Salt Lake City’s west side.
The LHM Company has committed almost $3.5 billion to the proposed development, thus it comes with a cost.
Located on nearly 100 acres by the Utah State Fairpark and Jordan River, development leaders believe the project will “serve as an economic and cultural catalyst for the state and westside community.”
“My parents, Larry and Gail Miller, grew up on the westside and were proud to be part of that community. We now have a multi-generational opportunity to take all the great things about that community, add resources to it, and create something special,” said Greg Miller, vice board chair of LHM Company.
To realize their vision for a “modern, sustainable and vibrant space for businesses, residents and visitors alike,” LHM Company leaders are collaborating closely with Salt Lake City, the Utah State Fairpark Board, the Jordan River Commission, and state leaders, according to a release.
“The westside is a gathering place for so many people and an opportunity to be a showcase as people are visiting our state for the first time to see this incredible development as well as potentially Major League Baseball sitting right there welcoming people into the capital city,” said Utah Governor Spencer Cox in a statement.
The new Power District and Utah State Faripark have partnered, leaders stressed, to “allow investment in Fairpark infrastructure.”
In an area that will be accessible, bikeable, and connected to public transportation, the development will have green space, trails, a beautified Jordan River area, housing, local restaurants and retail, and picture-perfect views of the Utah mountains.
It’s no secret that LHM Company and other Utah officials are advocating for big-league baseball in the beehive state, even if it’s not official that Utah will get a major league franchise.
According to organizers in a release, the renderings show a brand-new ballpark in the power area that would be an “idea, shovel-ready site” for a stadium.
