Salt Lake City, Utah – According to an old proverb, “When one door closes, another one opens.” Taking the proverb literally, the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services closed a well-known liquor store in the downtown area and opened a new one a short distance away.

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10 p.m., the state liquor store at 205 West 400 South will permanently close. On Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11 a.m., a brand-new state liquor store will open a few streets away at 151 East 300 South.

This new booze store will be the first two-story establishment in Utah. The new structure, which has 37 doors of chilled beverages, will increase the amount of inventory that is available at the 400 South location, according to the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services.

“The DABS is excited to open this store which is designed with a heightened focus on customer service. Better service for residents, tourists and the hospitality businesses like restaurants and bars that rely on the DABS for products sold at their establishments,” said DABS Executive Director Tiffany Clason.

According to Clason, revenue from the new store is expected to reach $13 million in the fiscal year 2025. Six million of those sales will be allocated to state and local governments for the purpose of funding public safety, transportation, roads, health, and education. DABS anticipates that local companies who purchase department products will account for twenty percent of sales at the downtown location.
