Dozen of fish dead, lined up on beach at Cedar City lake
Cedar City, Utah — Dozens of fish left on the beach at the Lake at the Hills in Cedar City. Investigators have been looking for one or more suspects.
According to Cedar City Leisure Services, someone has been illegally pulling fish from the lake near 2000 West and Royal Hunte Drive. A photo posted to social media Friday showed dozens of dead fish lined up on the beach.
There were 50 fish, and several still had the fishing line attached to their mouths from when they were caught, officials said.
According to Utah hatchery operators, the intense heat in the state could kill fish. The current drought conditions, they said, expose them to low water levels and high water temperatures that slow their growth, reduce their immune system and could kill them.
It was not clear if the heat contributed to the fishes’ deaths at the Lake at the Hills.
Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to call the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Southern Region at 435-865-6100.
