For the second year in a row, Salt Lake Airport breaks the passenger record

Salt Lake City, Utah – The number of travelers arriving at Salt Lake City International Airport has surpassed all previous records for the second consecutive year.
Between January 1 and December 31, 2024, 28,364,610 passengers traveled through the airport, beating the previous record by almost 1.5 million, according to airport officials. In 2023, slightly under 2.7 million passengers traveled through Salt Lake International, setting that record.
According to officials, the 1.3 million more domestic passengers from 2023 are to blame for the year-over-year increase in passengers. Additionally, there was a roughly 50,000 rise in foreign passengers.
Bill Wyatt, executive director of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, stated that the rise in passengers last year was mostly due to Utah’s thriving economy, which includes the rise in tourists and skiers. “We added gate capacity, which brought new airlines to SLC, and new nonstop destinations, thanks to our hub carrier Delta Air Lines, increased passenger numbers.”
With about 300 planes leaving each day, Salt Lake International Airport is the 86th busiest airport globally and the 23rd busiest in the United States, according to airport authorities.
Officials claim that the airport was running at almost three times its capacity before it underwent renovations. The airport has expanded its capacity and welcomed new carriers, including Air Canada, Hawaiian, Avelo, Spirit, and Sun Country since the initial phase of the reconstruction opened.
After Phase 4 is finished in the fall of 2026, the New SLC Airports are expected to handle 34 million passengers.
