Health Dept.: 1,496 more COVID-19 cases in Utah; 8 new death
The Utah Department of Health’s COVID-19 report for Friday shows an additional 1,496 cases —bringing the state’s total to 91,957 — and 8 new deaths.
A total of 957,309 people in Utah have been tested for the disease and the state’s rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 1,224 per day, according to the report.
The continuing surge in cases remains alarming for Utah officials.
“If we cannot get this spike under control, and based on today’s data, we expect four more counties to automatically be designated as high transmission areas next week as part of our newly revised and updated transmission index.” said Gov. Gary Herbert. “High transmission areas have more strict public health requirements than moderate and low areas.”
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,559 people in Utah have required hospitalization for COVID-19. Of those, 290 remain hospitalized.
537 people in Utah have died of COVID-19. The new deaths announced Friday are:
- Male, between 45-64, Davis County resident, hospitalized at time of death
- Male, older than 85, Box Elder County resident, not hospitalized at time of death
