Salt Lake City, Utah – Following allegations of careless business practices, including egregious misconduct and the exploitation of elderly people, by a local plumbing company, Action Plumbing, Heating, Air, and Electric, experts are cautioning homeowners to exercise extreme caution.

Legal action is currently being taken by the Department of Commerce.

“We were primarily commercial heating and air conditioning guys, and we spent a lot of our time helping friends and family because they were having companies like this tell them they needed new systems when it was a simple part replacement,” Branden Boynton, owner of B&Z Heating and Air, stated

He described the widespread use of dishonest tactics, such as inflating repair estimates and making false claims about the amount of work that has to be done.

“I believe they exploit people’s emotions. “No one wakes up in the morning anticipating that their air conditioner or furnace will malfunction,” Boynton stated.

This is the reason real estate agent Becky Nay alerts her customers to these frauds.

In 2018, I encountered a situation where a seller needed to request an HVAC system tune-up and inspection. She was informed that she required a thousand-dollar repair by a coupon-using company. Don’t make him do anything, I said. I’ll send my recommended HVAC contractor. “It was a hundred-dollar repair when he went out the following day,” Nay added.

Nay urges homes to exercise caution. “When someone puts pressure on you to sign anything or to have them do it immediately, it is a warning sign. You don’t need to finish anything at that moment,” Nay stated.

Boynton advised you to have a technician walk you through any repairs they suggested.
“Ask them to clarify why you require that repair. They should have a reason for why the part has to be replaced, so make sure they explain the problem in detail and utilize their equipment and meters to demonstrate it to you,” Boynton added.

When choosing a contractor, homeowners should always seek a second or third perspective and conduct their own research by reading reviews and confirming the company’s legitimacy, according to Boynton and Nay.
