St. George, Utah – In a recount of the Republican primary for the 2nd Congressional District, Congresswoman Celeste Maloy triumphed once more.

Jenkins was defeated by Maloy by a margin of 176 votes when Washington County certified its recount findings on Monday.

Jenkins trailed Maloy by 214 votes before the recount.

Jenkins is still fighting the GOP primary results in a petition that is pending before the Utah Supreme Court. He has claimed that because more than 1,000 ballots were routed to an out-of-state USPS processing facility, they were not counted. He claimed that although voters in the 2nd District might have still placed them in a mailbox prior to the deadline, they wouldn’t have been mailed for days.

The Utah Attorney General’s Office has been urged by the state’s highest court to reply to Jenkins’ appeal by Wednesday. If the justices decide to take up the matter, the Court may schedule a hearing shortly.

“I am aware that the matter is still in litigation, and I am looking forward to the court’s verdict. After the recount, Maloy released a statement saying, “We will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

Jenkins made a suggestion that he won’t give up.

“A race that was too close to call has now become even closer,” he declared. “We look forward to the Utah Supreme Court’s ruling so that every legitimate vote is tallied and every voice is heard.”
