OGDEN — Criminal charges were filed Thursday against a man who allegedly stabbed another inmate while at the Weber County Jail.

Jesus Velasquez-Zamora, 26, of Kearns, was charged in 2nd District Court with aggravated assault by a prisoner, a second-degree felony, and interfering with an arresting officer, a class B misdemeanor.

According to charging documents, on March 25 Zamora “initiated a fight with the victim over gang affiliation.”

“During the assault, inmate Velasquez-Zamora produces a shank from his waistband and appears to stab or cut the victim on his chest in a jabbing motion,” the charges state.

Zamora then attempted to pull a Weber County sheriff’s deputy in the direction of the jail’s shower area, according to the charges, but the deputy was able to “take down” Zamora and subdue him.

An updated condition on the inmate stabbed was not immediately available.
