More than $5,000 ‘intentional but random’ damage done throughout Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City, Utah – On Wednesday evening, a 47-year-old man was arrested on charges of “intentionally but randomly” smashing windows and causing damage to vehicles in Salt Lake City.
On three counts of felony property damage, Damien McNear was arrested and taken to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
According to the police, McNear was intoxicated when he used a rock to smash glass at the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office, which is located at 35 East and 500 South, at roughly 10 p.m. on November 13.
In addition, he is charged with chipping a window at the Salt Lake County Health Department and scratching ten brand-new cars at a nearby Mercedes-Benz shop.
According to reports, the district attorney’s office sustained damage worth well over $5,000. In the meantime, the health department is still evaluating the damage to the automobiles and the glass.
The Salt Lake City Police Department has not disclosed a potential motive for the property destruction, although stating that there is no cause to suspect that the crimes were targeted.
