One additional COVID-19 death reported in Utah, 111 new confirmed cases

SALT LAKE CITY — One additional death due to COVID-19 occurred in Utah since Sunday. That brings the total number of deaths in the state to 68, according to updated statistics released by the Utah Department of Health Monday.

There have also been 111 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. The total number of cases in Utah is now 6,362. That is a growth rate of just 1.8 percent from Sunday.

There have been five new hospitalizations in Utah, and as of Monday, 92 people are in the hospital with confirmed cases of the disease. Since the outbreak began, 517 have been hospitalized.

4,075 more people have been tested for COVID-19, bringing the total to 150,585. The positive test rate is still at 4.2 percent.

State Epidemiologist, Dr. Angela Dunn, said the numbers are holding steady ten days into Governor Gary Herbert’s switching the state from red or high risk to orange or moderate risk on May 1.

“We’ve been in orange for just over ten days now and we’ve maintained a plateau in our cases, we continue to have ample hospital capacity and stable testing numbers,” Dr. Dunn said.

Dr. Dunn was asked if any cities and counties will ask to go from orange to yellow this week as the governor had suggested, and she said there are no plans to do so anywhere in the state at this time.
