Salt Lake Co. leaders release mass vaccination plan

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson and Gary Edwards, Executive Director of the Salt Lake County Health Departmen held a news conference Friday morning to discuss the county’s mass vaccination plans.
“We are happy to report today that Salt Lake County has this under control. You all, public, will be receiving a vaccine. What we can’t give you today is a date, and we ask for your patience,” Wilson said.

Utah is in Phase 1 of its COVID-19 vaccine distribution, and the initial doses are going to” healthcare workers, residents and workers at long-term care facilities, first responders, public health workers, community health workers, and Tribal health,” according to Utah’s coronavirus website.
As of Friday morning, 157,925 COVID-19 vaccines have been shipped to different locations across the state, including 79,275 for Salt Lake County.

On December 15 healthcare workers with Intermountain Healthcare and University of Utah Health were the first to receive COVID-19 vaccines doses in Utah.
The Utah Department of Health reports vaccines are expected to be available for members of the general public by July.
