Through rain or snow, a mailman in Salt Lake City has been delivering mail for three decades
Salt Lake City, Utah – We requested USPS mail carrier Gene Gonzales to repeat the unofficial letter carrier slogan as snow began to fall on Salt Lake City’s Scenic Dr.
“We’ll finish it whether it rains, snows, sleets, or shines,” he declared.
Gonzales’ familiarity with the slogan is not surprising. He has been a postal courier for thirty years.
He also enjoys working in the snow, even if it sometimes make him move more slowly as he goes about his job.
“Be ready for it; I’m ready,” Gonzales added. “I’m cozy and toasty right now. In the summer, you can’t always stay cool, but you can always stay warm.
Gonzales has been traveling the same route for fifteen years, and his customers are aware that he doesn’t even blink in freezing weather.
“I make fun of him because he dressed for you people,” Bob Dolan, a resident of Scenic Dr., remarked. It has been said that he wears shorts all winter long. He simply goes and grabs it every day, pulling up his knee socks and socks, and it’s truly beautiful.
He walks a 7-mile route and makes over 380 deliveries in a single day.
Gonzales’s beard also helps him feel like he gets to play Santa during this time of year.
Particularly when I see a delivery gift that a little child may receive over the Christmas season, I can picture what that person might be getting. Gonzales remarked, “I know they’re going to be happy that Christmas morning.”
