Salt Lake City, Utah – Residents are being alerted by the Davis County Sheriff’s Office about a recent surge in scam calls in which con artists pose as local law enforcement officials.

In recent days, a number of residents have reported receiving threatening phone calls from con artists posing as Davis County lieutenants and deputies to look authentic.

As stated by Stephanie Dinsmore of the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, “I actually received a personal phone call today with threatening language.” “Even in my role in law enforcement, I still pause to think ‘Oh my word, these people can get under your skin so quickly.'”

Scammers usually claim that victims have unresolved warrants or missed jury service. Federal gag rules are also mentioned in some calls. Officials claim that these strategies are intended to incite fear and coerce people into making quick payments.

Regretfully, several locals have already been duped by these methods.

“If they’re asking you for Bitcoin if they’re asking you to wire funds, no law enforcement agency in the country operates that way,” said Dinsmore.

Anyone who receives strange calls is advised by the Sheriff’s Office to:

• Hang up immediately

• Call the sheriff’s office front desk directly to verify any claims

• Be wary of demands for payment via gift cards or cryptocurrency

The government has put warning signs on Bitcoin machines in nearby food stores to encourage locals from falling for these scams.
