PRICE — A registered sex offender who served time in Utah State Prison on a rape conviction has been arrested again.

John Adam Bird, 41, of Helper, was booked into the Carbon County Jail on Thursday for investigation of rape.

Bird is accused of taking a 15-year-old girl to a remote area of Carbon County at night and raping her in his car in December, according to a police affidavit.

“The 15-year-old female said she told him no and to stop multiple times,” the affidavit states.

After he was done, Bird warned the girl not to tell anyone what had happened because of his status as a sex offender, according to the affidavit. Bird was on parole at the time of his arrest.

In 2006, he was convicted of rape and forcible sodomy in Uintah County and was sentenced to one to 15 years in the Utah State Prison, according to court records. He was also convicted that year in a separate case of lewdness.

In another case, Bird was sentenced in 2006 in Carbon County to five years in prison for convictions of theft, burglary and voyeurism. A judge ordered that sentence to run concurrent with the sentence out of Uintah County, court records say.
