Utah’s Best Friends Animal Society starts construction on a facility for staff housing
Kanab, Utah — In an effort to keep personnel in their headquarters in Southern Utah, the Best Friends Animal Society is building 24 housing units for them.
More than half of the 850 employees of the animal sanctuaries work from their headquarters in Kanab, where they are having trouble filling 42 open positions. As a result, a project to construct 12 duplex units with one, two, and three-bedroom options was started in order to provide housing for staff.
“We need people. Period. That’s why we made the commitment to building housing for our staff,” CEO of Best Friends Julie Castle said. “And not just any housing, but beautiful, pet-friendly homes, with private yards, garages, and all appliances.”
The $6 million project will use a local contractor, and the structures are expected to be finished in early 2023. Best Friends stated that they will make the rent as affordable as feasible for their personnel while still charging employees a reasonable market rate.
“This is more than an investment in real estate, it’s an investment in our community, our staff, and in our mission,” Castle said.
