Day of the Dead celebrations at Hogle Zoo on October 26
Salt Lake City, Utah — The Hogle Zoo in Utah will host a unique day-long celebration on October 26 to honor “Da de los Muertos,” sometimes referred to as “Day of the Dead.”
When the dead are believed to return to the world of the living as Monarch butterflies, Day of the Dead is observed in Latin cultures to remember departed loved ones.
Activities for Da de los Muertos at the zoo will pay tribute to deceased zoo animals and include special talks by zookeepers and butterfly-themed crafts.
For individuals who observe the event, shrines are frequently erected in houses filled with mementos of loved ones, lights, and painted sugar or chocolate skulls.
