“This is 100% our income,” a Utah TikTok developer worries about the possible consequences of a ban
Salt Lake City, Utah – If a ban on TikTok is implemented, Utahns who have invested years in growing their followings on the app may lose the results of their labor.
JT Laybourne has amassed a fan base of over 1.7 million from his Farmington home. More than 56,000,000 people have liked his videos, which include positive messages, family moments, and details of his fight against heart disease.
“Go make someone smile was my entire motto when I first joined TikTok,” he remarked. “This world is filled with negativity. We have it all around us.
His upbeat message has struck a chord with people everywhere.
As a result, he founded the company “Just Think.” He sells sweatshirts, tees, and hats with motivational sayings, slogans, and pictures. He is able to spend more time with his wife and kids thanks to his income.
Since this is how we make a living, I find it frightening. This is all of our revenue,” he explained. “I support my family in this way, and leaving would completely upend our fragile world.”
Although he acknowledges the national security risks, he wonders if that is the only reason why American lawmakers have taken action to prevent access to it.
“Anyone who says otherwise, in my opinion, is foolish,” Laybourne stated. “National security is very important.” However, I’m concerned that we might not be receiving all the information on TikTok. The world we live in is driven by fear.
Before making a choice that will have a big influence on his family and many others around the nation, Laybourne hopes that decision-makers would genuinely consider both sides of the debate.
If this is the case, he stated, “I just want to make sure that it’s happening for the right reasons and not for political gains.”
