The days that Salt Lake City picks up trash are changing
Salt Lake City, Utah – The Waste and Recycling Division of Salt Lake City will be revising the days on which curbside garbage collection will take place for the first time in almost three decades.
The new pick-up schedule, which will start on Monday, February 3, will enable the City’s labor and equipment resources to be at their peak during the middle of the week, when the most demanding workloads will take place, according to city authorities.
When is the right time to take your trash cans outside? The updated schedule is shown below:
• Residents who currently have a Monday pickup will switch to Tuesdays.
• Residents who currently have a Tuesday pickup will switch to Mondays.
• Residents who currently have a Wednesday pickup will switch to Fridays.
• Residents who currently have a Thursday pickup will not switch.
• Residents who currently have a Friday pickup will switch to Wednesdays.
Erin Mendenhall, the mayor of Salt Lake City, stated, “We know that residents value efficiency and dependability above all else when it comes to essential services like waste and recycling.”
“This new schedule is a no-brainer for our city because it will directly result in more consistency in service and fewer disruptions due to bad weather or unforeseen events.”
Over the past 30 years, Utah’s capital has seen an overall trend of growth, but not all parts of the city have developed at the same pace, according to Chris Bell, director of Salt Lake City’s Waste and Recycling Division Center.
“The weekly pickup days scheduled 30 years ago are not as efficient as they once were because of these uneven growth patterns, which have resulted in heavier collection workloads in some neighborhoods,” Bell said.
According to reports, Salt Lake City officials mapped out new pick-up routes and planned them using local data and technology to reduce collection truck travel time, distance, and fuel usage.
Apartments, condominiums, and companies that have private dumpsters will not be impacted by this scheduling modification, according to city authorities. Additionally, it won’t affect pick-up or availability for Call-2-Haul. Momentum Recycling, the city’s third-party service provider, will notify those residents who choose to recycle glass curbside about new monthly pick-up dates.
